Kathryn Downer was born in Southern California in July of 1979 to a single mother. She was given up for adoption to a lovely couple of professors in Northern California. She was raised in a conservative home that was full of art and expression. Her passion for art and photography stemmed from her father who had a darkroom in the garage and dabbled in fine art photography. Her photography and artistic eye started at a young age and continued to grow and mature with her. Her works have changed over the years, but she has never lost the eye for the unseen.

She is currently attending Southern Oregon University pursuing a degree in art that is well rounded in all facets of artistry. She aims to continue her education with a MFA with an emphasis in photography. When she completes her education she hopes to become a professor of photography to encourage future generations with artistic expression. She wants to showcase her work to inspire others to find their artistic style.

She is inspired by many diverse artists in painting and photography including Ansel Adams, Sally Mann, Kandinsky, Van Gogh, Da Vinci, Lisa Yuskavage, and countless others.
